Elizabeth Merwin, PhD, RN, FAAN, is currently serving as Dean at The University of Texas at Arlington College of Nursing and Health Innovation. Previously, she was the Executive Vice Dean at Duke University School of Nursing, where she is currently a Consulting Professor. She is also a professor emeritus from the University of Virginia. Throughout her career, Dr. Merwin has been a nursing and health services researcher specializing in the areas of rural health, mental health, and health disparities in under-served communities. In addition to her research and educator work, Dr. Merwin has held leadership roles and management positions in both academia and health care delivery systems.
Today, while providing administrative leadership of the largest non-profit school of nursing in the country, she also continues to pursue her research towards the betterment of health care for rural and minority health populations. Dr. Merwin is conducting an almost $3 million dollar study funded by the National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities of the National Institutes of Health, focusing on the reduction of health disparity in the Medicare population.
